On January 6th,2011 (Feast of the Epiphany) the Hicksville Kiwanis Club held their Three Kings celebration at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church under the guidance of Mother Joan Grimm Fraser. The names of the 94 children were supplied by St. Ignatius Human Services. Mother Joan conducted a small service in the church in both Spanish and English to honor the arrival of the 3 Kings and their presentation of gifts to the Baby born on Christmas Day. During the service, the children presented pictures they had colored as their gifts to the Baby Jesus. Afterwards, the children and their families were treated to a supper of pizza and soda. In keeping with the custom observed in Spanish culture, the children were given presents on this, the final day of the Christmas season, the 12th day of Christmas.
We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to rein
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
The Hicksville Key Club was there to help out and serve the children and their families. They did a wonderful job and made the celebration a huge success. Also in attendance was our President Ed Sauracker, Past President Diane Brousseau, the Honorable John Budnick, Douglas Frasier, Kathy Galpine, Pat Geraci, Stan Kobin, Matt Korman, Kathleen Matykiewicz, Beth Dalton-Costello and Don Johnston. We would also like to thank Harry Loomis from the Hicksville Fire Department who played one of the Kings and Erica, a volunteer from Human Services, who helped out in many different ways.
